Evaluation of Performance

Description

On Wednesday January 22nd 2025, we performed a gig called Through the Decades. During this performance the class performed songs from different decades from the 50’s up to the 2020’s.

Feelings

Before the performance I felt – stressed about preforming. This was because one of my songs I did not have a singer until the day before the final performance. Before the performance I was not really thinking about anything. During the performance I felt – stressed, because of lack of rehearsals with a singer. I was confident with playing my part of the songs as I knew them well. After the performance I feltrelieved that it was over and that I had done my part. I felt that I had been very resilient as I had not had a singer for some time, and I had not had chance to rehearse with a singer until the day of the performance

Analysis

We could make the performance better by being more organized as a whole. We could do this by ensuring that we all had a good amount of time to practice and prepare for the show. We should have advertised the show more in advance and made sure that we had tickets prepared in advance of the night too. We could have put up posters around the college, and advertised on social media, and we could have sent an email to staff and students to ensure that more people knew about the show.

Conclusion

I have learned to be more patient with people.

Action Plan

If the situation arose again – I would ensure that I practiced enough before the show. I could have counted down into the Someone You Loved, to ensure that my partner knew I was ready and then they would be ready to start.

Final Rehearsal Blog - Show Week

 Song List

- Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

- Perfect by Ed Sheeran

Monday 20th January 2025

On the morning of this day I did rehearsal of three songs (Perfect, Seven Years and Someone You Loved) on my own in the practice room. Jane had brought in her keyboard from home for me to use to practice on. So I took some time to get used to this new keyboard as I had not used it before. I decided to cut Yours from my set list as I wasn't able to practice with a singer and it was getting close to the performance.

On the afternoon, I practiced Someone You Loved with Mo as main vocals and Kaine as backing vocals. I feel that this session went better than the previous ones. We need more time to practice with each other but we have the rest of this week to do that. I found that in the practice room I couldn't hear Kaine during this session - this could have been due to us not having mics.

Also on the afternoon, Jane cane to listen to my rehearsal session with Mo and Kaine. I discussed with her how she thought the singing went, and we decided that Jayden would be the better singer for Someone You Loved.

Things that went well...

- I managed to run through all three songs completely in the morning sessions

- I am getting better with Mo during Someone You Loved

Things to Improve on...

- Getting used to using the new keyboard for practicing on. This will come with more time and practice

- I can ensure that I make my performances dynamic and add in dynamics to my practice sessions.

Further Progress...

- Make sure to use dynamics into my performances - this will come with more time and practice

- Ensuring that all three songs are ready for the performance.

Tuesday 21st January 2025

On the morning of this session I practiced all three songs in the practice room. I had not had anyone to practice Seven Years with so I discussed with Jane that I decided to cut this from my set list. I also discussed with Jane that I would use the songs which I had cut in future performances - as I did manage to do some rehearsals of them which means I would be able to make them better for future performances.

On the afternoon of this session we did a full run through of the show on the stage downstairs to ensure that we were getting out transition times right. This also helped me to get a feel for the stage. We did a run through of Perfect with Jayden, and we did a run through of Someone You Loved with Mo singing.

Things that went well...

- The run through of Someone You Loved and Perfect went well, because I have had a lot of practice with them

- I feel that my tempo is okay for both of the songs

Things to Improve on...

- I felt nervous to perform on stage with others. However, I will be able to get over this with time and preforming more shows

- I need to add in more dynamics to my performance to ensure that it sounds full when I perform in the live show

Further Progress...

- Make sure to use dynamics in my performance - this will come with more time and practice

- Ensure that both songs I am performing will be ready for the performance

Wednesday 22nd January 2025

We decided this morning that Jayden would perform both Perfect and Someone You Loved with me. We discussed this with Jane. Before the performance run though, me and Jayden did a run through of Someone You Loved in the practice room. Then we did a full run through of the show. I performed Perfect with Jayden with went well. I was feeling more comfortable to be on stage and performing. I was making sure to focus on dynamics during my performance. After the performance of Perfect, Jayden said that he felt ill so stepped off the stage to get some air - I decided that it would be best for me to leave the stage also. As I would have the opportunity to run through my parts of the show this afternoon. I had a quick discussion with Mo and Kaine and we all decided that they would be able to pick up for Jayden if this happened again.

On the afternoon - we had another full run through of the show. I felt that Perfect went well while on stage. I felt more confident for the show during this rehearsal. I was expecting Mo and Kaine to come onto the stage after I had finished Perfect, to preform Someone You Loved with me. However, Aimee came onto the stage to sing for this song. I felt better about this - I think this could be because we had practiced together before on some other songs. Tim came over after we had performed together and mentioned dynamics in the performance and also counting us both in so we were both ready. Me and Aimee focused on this later in the afternoon to ensure that we both sounded good together. I focused on dynamics which were getting better overall.

Things that went well...

- Performing with Aimee went well on Someone You Loved. We're able to perform well together.

- Perfect went well as I have had a lot of practice on this

- The timing for both Someone You Loved and Perfect went really well

Things to Improve on...

- I need to improve on the dynamics for both songs overall - this would come with more time and more practice

Further Progress...

- Perform the actual show

Rehearsal Blog 18 - Week 16

   Song List

- Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

- Yours by Ella Henderson

- Perfect by Ed Sheeran

- Seven Years by Lukas Graham

During this session I focused on Someone You Loved with Mo. We worked together the previous week to see how we sounded together. We used the backing track for this song at times to make sure our timings were right. Mo also listened to the track in his headphones to make sure that his timings were right.

I was struggling with the transitions before the bridge, the bridge and out of the bridge. So I worked on this section specifically, to make sure that it was ready for the performance.

Things that went well...

- Considering me and Mo have not worked together before we are working well together

- Because we have had some practice we are getting better with our timings

Things to Improve on...

- I can improve on my timings of both songs before the performance. This will come with more practice

Further Progress...

- I can spend more time working the Jayden on Perfect and with Mo on Someone You Loved to ensure that all of our timings are correct and that we can keep the same tempo as each other

- I need to decide which songs I am going to preform in the show next week.

  Song List

- Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

- Yours by Ella Henderson

- Perfect by Ed Sheeran

- Seven Years by Lukas Graham

During this session I focused on Perfect and I worked with Jayden. We had worked together before this performance on the same song so we knew how each other worked and we were able to work well together.

I also worked through Someone You Loved to get ready for the session on Wednesday when I would be working with Mo again.

Things that went well...

- Me and Jayden worked well together on Perfect

- Timings for Someone You Loved are better.

Things to Improve on...

Rehearsal Blog 16 - Week 15

 Song List

- Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

- Yours by Ella Henderson

- Perfect by Ed Sheeran

- Seven Years by Lukas Graham

During this session I mainly focused on Someone You Loved and Perfect. I also decided during this session to cut Someone Like You from my set list - as I had been struggling to build up my hand strength for it and I didn't think that it would be ready for the performance.

During this session I asked my peers who would be willing to sing on Someone You Loved. It was decided that Mo would join me in this session to see how things went. My LSA said that this would be a good idea. In the end we were struggling to stay in time with each other as Mo was singing too quickly.

I feel that we could improve together with more time working together.

I will continue to work on tempo and transitions of the other songs over the weekend with my piano teacher.

Things that went well...

- The speed and tempo for Someone You loved is good as I have had a lot of practice with it

- I had a singer for this session which helped me to keep in time for the song.

Things to Improve on...

-Me and Mo can work together more to ensure that we are in time with each other and can keep the same tempo for the whole song

- I can still continue to work on my timing and tempo for this song.

Further Progress...

- I can spend some more time working with Mo to ensure that we are able to keep time with each other

- I need to ask my peers to see if anyone is willing to work on Yours with me.

Rehearsal Blog 15 - Week 15

Song List

- Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

- Yours by Ella Henderson

- Perfect by Ed Sheeran

- Seven Years by Lukas Graham

- Someone Like You by Adele

This is the first session back after the Christmas Holidays. Over the holidays I looked at all of the songs in my set list and I worked on them with my piano teacher. And I did some rehearsal sessions by myself.

In this session I worked on Seven Years, Someone Like You, Yours. I have done Someone Like You before - but it is a hard song to play so I needed to build up my hand strength to play it. I worked with the backing track on Someone Like You to ensure that I had my timings right.

For Yours and Seven Years I continued to work on tempo and transitions.

Things that went well...

- The transitions on Seven Years and Yours are getting better.

- I am getting better at staying at the right tempo for Someone Like You. And it is getting easier to play.

Things to Improve on...

- I can continue to work on my transitions on Seven Years and Yours.

- I can continue to work on my hand strength for all my songs.

Further Progress...

- I need to look for a singer for Someone You Loved

- I need to work on Seven Years to ensure that I know it for the performance
