First session I rehearsed – Rolling in the deep

I had a few runs through rolling in the deep as feel more confident practising on my own without the pressure of others in the room. When I’ve heard others rehearse I have been concerned about timing however feel like moving forward more practise in rehearsal will help progress.

Things that went well…

I prefer to play alongside the music without vocals as this distracts means I can get the timing right when I hear the beat more. The more I practise the easier it flows when playing my hand muscle strength needs to be improved when playing. I did show Dom what I have learnt so far and he said he was happy with my progress.

Things to improve on…

I discussed with Dom playing the song on a different beat the original song is on the end of 1 and this is something I need to practice. We thought it may be easier to come in on the 1 but want to play like the original. People have changed groups a few times and need to ensure I am practising with the same people each time.

Further progress…

I would like to rehearse with other instrument to then play alongside vocals. I want to continue to progress my confidence in playing by getting the timing right before playing with others. When Jayden rehearsed with me last week he was just learning the son and needed the chords tods to follow correctly.

I didn’t perform someone like you this morning as feel very confident about this now. However, the vocals may be changing back to Maddie now due to the other vocals not attending.

We only have around 5 weeks until the performance to rehearse and perfect.

Today we played as a group – Someone like you

1 Pianist - Leah

2 Vocals – Faye & Vickie

2 Guitarists – Kane & Dan

I feel this is coming together really nicely and everyone is growing more confident.

Daniels Joined in and played alongside Kane and timing sounded good towards the end with more practice.  I have been practicing rolling in the deep on my own rather than with others as I want to get the timing exact I know all the chords now.

Things that went well…

When we first started to rehearse Faye was singing very quiet we all discussed intensifying her voice more. We also turned the mic up a little to hear Vic’s voice more as she is building her confidence to sing more parts to the song.

Things to improve on…

We had a week off from half term I was away and didn’t get much practice time this effected my timing. When I played today I was looking up a lot as and breaking causing my timing to be off. With rolling in the deep I would like to improve on playing octaves as this is something I haven’t practiced much and struggle to make the change.

Further progress…

I need to rehearse rolling in the deep further with my piano teacher.

I need to improve on the timing as I feel the song is fast paced.

I have started to practice Claire de lune more as the wedding will be coming up for me to perform and want to keep this going.

We only have around 6 weeks until the performance to rehearse and perfect.

Today was a small rehearsal session firstly with Vic and them Maddie and dan joined.

We initially split into 2 groups I rehearsed someone like you and others went to do rolling in the deep. I will rehearse rolling in the deep once feeling more confident after practice alongside the song. When I was on my own I practised the keys to rolling in the deep alongside a metronome to get the timing correct. I would like to practise more alongside playing the song before practising with others.

Things that went well…

We can play someone like you with breaking now there’s not much more we can do with this piece. We well continue to play this together to keep it fresh and try to learn more songs in the future.

Things to improve on…

During 1 run through I did loose placement in the chorus however quickly corected this and started again.

Further progress…

I am planning on learning more of rolling in the deep in the hope to be able to play rolling in the deep with everyone as a group. I would like to rehearse this more on the drums in my lessons to see which I prefer to play.

Today I rehearsed with Maddie and Mollie to “Someone like you”

We discussed about playing “Rolling in the deep and ran through it without the keyboard.

I practised the chords when everyone left the room I need to practice this alongside listening to this to get the timings correct. I think this could sound really good once pieced together however I would prefer to do the drums if possible.

Things that went well…

We rehearsed with Molly on guitar and she did an upper strum that sounded much better.

Things to improve on…

I missed a few keys I feel this is due to getting use to new vocals.

We plugged the keyboard into the amp and this had a ring to it but is best to do this so Maddie can hear me playing.

Further progress…

To continue practising rolling in the deep on both keyboard and drums.

We need to discuss the pre-chorus for timings for when the vocals come in as the chorus timing is fine. Possible adding count timing then come in could work for this. When I rehearsed with Aimee she watched me play and came in when ready this would be great to do with Maddie.

Today I rehearsed someone like you I had to pause a few times due to new vocals and getting the timing correct. The guitar has improved and now sounds similar with the correct timing.

We rehearsed rolling in the deep without me playing this will sound great once complete.

The timings need to be worked on with the guitar and beat. I also rehearsed with Faye on my own this allowed me to build further confidence rehearsing with other people. She also felt slightly nervous so was great for us both to play together and help engage further.

Things that went well…

Rehearsing with Maddie and Daisy went well and feel both voices go well together.

The pre-chorus went really well today with no breaking of vocals alongside my playing.

Things to improve on…

We tried to introduce shakers to the backing and this sounds like it could work for “rolling in the deep” by Adelle.

In the original song a high-hat pedal is used.

I will rehearse “rolling in the deep” on my own alongside the song playing as prefer this way of learning.

Further progress…

I need to learn when to play the keys in time so I can practice “Rolling in the deep” with everyone.

I will practice this in my piano lesson lessons ready for next week.

We spoke about other song to learn and considered “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse.

Music Practice Blog

Today I practiced a few run throughs of the song “Someone like you”

I feel its better to continue rehearsing this piece to keep this fresh on my mind.

During my last Piano lesson, I started to learn the Chorus to “Rolling in the deep”

I will continue to practice this to further rehearse when feeling more confident with others.

I have a drumming lesson today and want learn the drums for this song also to see what I feel more

confident playing.  I feel confident that I will be able to learn this as I won’t be playing throughout all

of the song. However, I will still need to ensure I have the timing exact so that I follow along with

the others. The instruments I will be playing alongside are Guitar, base and drums with vocals.

As I don’t have a drum kit at home I want to utilise the time in college to practise this more if I’m

able to. I will continue with my hand strength further as this is something I need to improve on.

I have tried to use a metronome however feel more comfortable without.

The speed of the music I feel will be manageable and easy to keep the pace.
